Honeycomb is a wonderful wonder of nature that honeybees have created. It is a perfectly arranged hexagonal cell structure made from natural beeswax, and it's one of the most functional parts of the honeybee hive. Today, honeycomb structures are used for numerous engineering and scientific applications.

Honeycomb is utilized by the hive for three reasons for three reasons: as a nursery in which to raise new bees; as a storage area to store and transform pollen into "beebread" as well as lastly, as a long-term storage of nectar. If a hive has a swarm, the bees create an entirely new hive with a honeycomb foundation.

Bees make honeycombs by agitating their flight muscles to produce heat. This softens the beeswax plates they release from their abdominals. The bees then form the wax into cylinders, and connect adjacent cells on both sides. This arrangement is extremely consistent, suggesting that it is not merely the result of random physical forces but rather an structured pattern of construction behavior. It's also an exceptional example of convergent evolutionary - an example of convergent evolution where the same feature is discovered independently in closely related species.
