WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The
item upgrader mod upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.
The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.
Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display a preview of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the
item level upgrade as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Many locations offer
Item Level Upgrade upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.
Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from another set of gear.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.
First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.
The use of these currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the
Best item upgrade gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
