Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word which means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour established them as a brand around the world.

Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
