WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.
The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The upgrader for items allows players to
upgrade items their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.
The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players from
Best item upgrade upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.
The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an
item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.
Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less, even if they belong to another set of gear.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.
Crests
Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.
The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an
item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
