Upgrades can give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which displays a preview of the item when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.
The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an
item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
