WoW Upgrades - The
Item UpgraderUpgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.
The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the
item upgrader and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.
Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and an issue.
In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if those items come from a different set of equipment.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific
item level upgrade level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an
Item Level Upgrade is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
