How is Free Pragmatics Different from Explanatory Pragmatics?
Pragmatics is the study of the role that context plays to linguistic meaning. It studies the way that humans use language in social interaction and the relationship between the speaker and interpreter. Linguists who specialize in pragmatics are called pragmaticians.
Many different theories of pragmatics have been developed over time. Some, such as Gricean pragmatics focus on the intention of communication of speakers.
